Sexburga the Brewster

I was born in Wessex, in the year 668. I was an only child, and heir to my father's and mother's lands. My father had great aspirations, and named me after the Queen, a distant relative. I grew up on my father's estate, learning to manage our large household. My mother taught me her skills of healing, from the time I learned to walk. At an appropriate age, my father gave me in marriage to Aethelwolf, a local landowner of means. My husband insisted I participate in managing our large staff and resident crofters. I took on the task of brewing our ale and the servants' ale, a skill I learned from my father. My husband was greatly pleased by my efforts, and the servants were pleased by the quality of their rations. As our hives produced a bounty of honey, I began to ferment the golden syrup into liquid gold. My humble efforts were a boon to our family, as our taxes were easily paid in ale and mead of superior quality. Alas, my husband passed from this life after a quarrel with my son (currently off to war), during a freak hunting accident. I was suddenly widowed. My son has allowed me to remain on our land, as his representative. As a dutiful son, he allows me to do as I please, which is brew. I manage our estate and holdings in his stead, a function that I enjoy, and that I am more than capable enough to do. I often provide guidance to young people, benefiting them with the wisdom of my years, and my experience in brewing and costuming.
