Persona History:

Vladimir was born in Kiev in 1220 to an affluent merchant family. He entered the priesthood but left to fight against the Mongol invasion. Fleeing the sack of Kiev, he made his way north and entered the service of the young Grand Duke of Novgorod, Aleksandr.

With Aleksandr he helped defeat the Swedes on the banks of the River Neva in 1240. In 1242 he joined Aleksandr (now named Nevsky after the battle on the Neva) again, this time to defend the Rus against the Teutonic Knights, soundly trouncing them on the frozen surface of Lake Chudskoye.

Vladimir remained in Aleksandr Nevsky's service until 1246, when, unable to stomach the way his lord bowed and scraped to the hated Mongols, he departed and made his way to Constantinople, where he settled, married and is now raising a family, in 1256.
