Arts & Sciences Activities
Arts & Science Mixer
When: Sunday after final court
Where: THUA Tents
Who: Open to any with interest in the Arts & Sciences and wish to meet like minded individuals
What: Have an A&S interest but don't know anyone else who shares it? A big project in mind but no idea where to start? Finally a chance to match names with faces and skill sets in the A&S community. Name tags will be provided (Mine will say "Bjar: 16th C Costuming, Bardic, Fence"). Feel free to to bring projects (or even photos of those large and unwieldy ones) for feedback. Feel free just to bring enthusiasm. As a social occasion, it is encouraged to bring snackable and shareable food or drink. Not expected to be period snacks but a list of ingredients should be available for allergies sake.
Questions? Not able to make it but still interested? Please ask Bjar (screamingblue7 at hotmail).

Arts & Sciences War Point (ALL BAGS ARE NOW SPOKEN FOR - NO MORE LEFT)
The fighters are strong and brave, protecting us with the might of their arms and their weapons skill. Non-fighters have skills too! Important skills that will be created and displayed at this year's Quad War A&S WAR Point! Here is your chance to contribute!
Pre-registration is required so enough bags are made up. Pre-registration is done by sending an email to wtraub at worldpost dot ca.
Pick up your A&S War Bag from the Troll Booth as you enter. You must use only the items you find in the bag to create your Arts & Sciences project. You do not have to use ALL the items. You may use other tools to finish your project, however the tool cannot be part of your finished item (for example, you used scissors to cut something into shape, but the scissors themselves are not part of the project).
You may negotiate a trade for items from your bag with items from other participants' bags. (This must be a mutual trade, no "borrowing").
Hand your finished entry to HL Rhowyn the Bardd at the THUA table by 5pm on Saturday so it has time to be judged. Also hand in the bag with any unused items. Fill out the A&S card and attach it to your finished entry. Winner will be announced when the other war points are announced at court.
Your entry will be judged on
* Quality of workmanship
* Originality
* Authenticity/Period correctness
* Overall appeal
Bonus! No documentation is required.

Quad War 2011 Brewmeister
Calling all those who love to brew! Bring in your best bottle of period made alcoholic beverage for a chance to be known as the Quad War 2011 Brewmeister! Drop your entries off before 4 p.m. Saturday at O'Malley's Bakery on merchant's row, fill out the entry card, include a brief "documentation" on the card as to the period-ness of your brew, then wait with anticipation for the outcome.
The Barons and Baronesses (Landed and Court) of Avacal are invited, by the fortitude of their livers and the experience of their illustrious years, to be the judges for this first time event! Judging will take place on Saturday after supper (actual time will be Heralded at the event) in the gardens at the little Tudor house on Goodwater Way, where HL Marcus Wynniatt will have the assorted entries lined up for your tasting and judging pleasure.
Judging will be completed in time for Sunday Court, where the winner will be announced and presented with a hand-scribed and illuminated scroll created by HL Mergriet van Wijenhorst of Bordergate and the full, well-deserved bragging rights that go along with it!
Only one entry per applicant please. You can supply more than one bottle so all the judges can taste it, but only one entry.

Gaming
We will be holding an informal gaming tournament during this year's Quad War. Several period games will be set up by the THUA registration tent. Grab your opponent and fill out the gaming card, play a game and make a notation on the card who won, then hand it into the THUA registration tent. The most "wins" wins! This will be announced at Sunday's court, so you have all day Saturday to play!
And what a prize to win! A beautiful chess set donated by HL Marcus Wynniatt. The chess set can be viewed at the THUA registration tent.
Please note that although the cards and hand-ins are at the THUA Registration tent, this informal tournament has nothing to do with THUA; it is simply a logistical convenience.
